Old screw holes filled with clear epoxy with some tiny paua inlay - you can see one of the two main holes in the lower right of the photo. I have glued some little off-cuts into the screw holes I made to hold the routing template for the pickup. I'll trim those off tomorrow and sand down. Almost ready to start finishing. I've put the spray can into the hot water cupboard to warm it up. Hopefully will start on varnishing this weekend.

First coat of varnish on. Hard to see in this light, but looking really good.

What sort of varnish are you using?

Most varnish I've heard of for guitars is "Conversion Varnish" which is a 2-part polyurethane which must be mixed just before use so doesn't come in spray cans. Good, tough stuff, but you have to have the right equipment.

Spent last night sanding and polishing the front and back. Didn't get the sides done because I ran out of elbow grease. I have also started on shielding the pickup and control cavities. Pretty happy with the way it is coming up :D

Back in the workshop. The pickup and control cavities are now fully shielded. You can also see I've also put a copper strip under the bridge. You can't really see it, but I've got wires soldered in to earth all the copper shielding together.

The bridge is properly in place and earthed. The pickups have gone in and the wires are pulled through into the control cavity. The control plate is sitting there next to the body. I've just found I've lost the wiring diagram, so off to find it on the Lace Pickups website.

Found a wiring diagram. I had done most of the work on the control plate already, so just two wires to solder onto the volume pot, all and earth wire, and it is good to go. I have plugged it into my amp and given it a tap with a screwdriver. It works!! 8)
If I had some strings, I could actually string it up tonight, but need to varnish the neck and put a logo on it first. I've put the neck on tonight anyway to see how it look - which is pretty nice.

That's starting to look like an actual instrument! Great progress!

Serial number on the heel of the neck. Got to finish it in November now! Varnishing the neck over the next few days.

Here it is! Neck finished, nut and tuners installed, and strung up with a set of GHS Precision flats. Still got the setup to do, but it's been plugged in and played. It was a very nervous moment for me, but I'm happy to report it has a very big rich warm tone. Today was a very good day! :D
