Neck on for the first time today! :D Mounted the hardware to see how it feels. It seems to be pretty nicely balanced, so very happy with that. Still a lot of work to go on the body, but today was a great day!

A long overdue update. Just on photo but it shows a lot of progress. I wasn’t happy with the join line between top and bottom so decided to ‘bind’ it with some mahogany veneer I found. It’s less than 1mm thick so had to get a special router bit to cut a channel for it. It wasn’t too hard to bend to shape after a good soak in hot water. Once that was glued in place, routed the sharp edges down to a nice curve. Finally, I got to use the awesome little shaping plane I bought for this project to hit away a a space for my middle-aged gut. It was a delight to use and made fast work to get the right shape. A few minutes with a scrapper and it looks fantastic

Got to keep the momentum going and get it finished!

Here I've done a test bend on an off-cut of veneer. The radius on the horn is pretty tight. Boiling for 5 minutes softens it nicely. I think there is a little fault in the veneer on the bottom which has lifted off. Should be fine so long as I do a good job selecting the bit that gets bent there

It is mahogany. Spoils my brief to user on NZ natives, but it is recycled and it is so thin I’ve granted myself an exemption
