Maton JB 4 Basses

Post by MegaBass1 » Sat Jul 17, 2010 4:19 pm

I would be very keen to hear from anyone who has owned or played a "Jum Buck 4". Bassist Clive Harrison had a heck of a lot of good things to say about these Australian guitars in his book "How to play advanced bass". And if anyone knows of one that is for sale - let me know!

had the pleasure of owning a JB4 fretless bout 20 years ago - lovely tone and playability - good for the jazz group i played with back then, but with no work for the jazz outfit i had it to be ''sold on behalf' in the front window of "Bungalow Bill's" music store when it was on Symonds Street - it didn't get sold, it got nicked in a smash'n grab - i didnt mind as i got the price i wanted - dont have the serial number - however Bill may have if you come across one with a dodgey history. To be recommended.

Yep, I've got the Maton Fyrbyrd which is a bit earlier (only 30 were made). Very different bass from the JB4 though.

Nice Condition Maton Fretless on TM

One of my favorite Charlie Jemmet stories is of a guy buying a Maton Bass off him in 1982 then not returning to Chch until 2004, goes into CJ's and Charlie looks up and says "how's that fretless Maton" :)
