Re: Skin Allergies - Help with Non Nickel Strings
My experiment into Chrome Flatwounds has made no difference at all to the skin allergy so I put a fresh set of EB roundwounds back on my MM last week.
For me it's like an meeting a long lost friend.
Whatever you do... don't put flats on an MM.
The flats have been moved onto my acoustic bass but I haven't had a good play with it yet to be able to judge.
In regards to the skin allergy... case closed. Phew!
I paid a top specialist $200 for a 15 minute consultation to tell me it was a hand dermatitis. $50 prescription of a couple of different hand creams and 2 weeks later it's all cleared up. I'm rather releaved and feeling stupid for having not seen a specialist sooner and putting up with it for so long. It's not a permanent cure but now I've found a good treatment that works.

3 page thread about non-nickel strings and no one said warwick black labels (stainless steel roundwounds)?
Rock shop has 'em so they're easy to get and IMO they're really worth the price. My strings at the jam the other week were about year old black labels, to give you an idea. Some don't like the feel of them, you've certainly got to get used to them

That's great if you're still happy with the sound after 1 year.

bathe in potassium permanganate
go vegetarian
get the prick test
do you get asthma or hayfever? If so you are probably going to have to mange it rather than get rid of it
some people now think it's also a symptom of celiacs disease.

Re: Skin Allergies - Help with Non Nickel Strings
I broke a string on my friends bass once, and put a set of those on it. They were horrible. Every string sounded dead.potatoes wrote:3 page thread about non-nickel strings and no one said warwick black labels (stainless steel roundwounds)?
"What is the cause of pompholyx?
The exact cause is not known. Some investigators consider it is caused by abnormal sweating."
Abnormal sweating? Do I even wanna know?

Played an acoustic bass with these on it once, loved 'em. Wish I could remember what the brand was. Started with T, I think.
