Radian P-Bass - Fresh Off the Press!

Post by ash » Thu Aug 02, 2012 12:39 pm

Howdy chaps!

I don't get to make basses that often so usually don't have much to show off here, but here's one that has been on the boil for a while. It's the first edition of the new Radian bass (as yet unnamed):

Image

Specs:
One piece NZ grown Alder body
One-piece maple J-Bass style neck
Ash P-Bass pickup
Volume/Tone with push-pull to bring out a bonus Jazz-ish tone
Satin lacquer finish all over
Wilkinson vintage style steel/brass bridge

Image

This one is the standard, basic spec. Options include (some at extra cost):
Radian Options wrote:Body wood: Alder, korina, mahogany, hard ash, paulownia, blackwood, kauri, kahikatea and others
Neck: Precision, Jazz or Tele-bass, fretted or fretless with maple, rosewood or (limited) ebony fretboard.
Pickups: P or P/J - Ash, DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, Rio Grande, EMG and others
Body shape: Refined P-Bass (as above), Telecaster (Like Snitchez/Irvin's one)
Bridge/Tuners: Wilkinson, Gotoh, Hipshot, Badass etc
Finish: Satin natural is standard, stains, solid colours and gloss at extra cost.
The bass is in Wellington this weekend for the NZG Gearfest. If you want to check it out and are on NZG too, details of the event are here: http://www.nzguitars.com/forum/viewtopi ... 75#p525681

Had a good go on it today and actually have it at mine for review.
It's quite a bass!
Neck is Jazz width but very deep, baseball bat like, and a satin finish on the neck.
Pick ups are quite aggressive, got lots of bite and grind.
The tone switch goes from class big mids p sound to a scooped modern tone.
The thing about it is the wonderful body. So nice in person.

Compared to my p bass I liked the neck on mine a tad more (thinner) and the sound of mine is a bit more punchy and deep. Tempted to not give it back, as it's such a nice bass.
