Hey. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of or has installed a whammy bar on a bass before? Is it possible?
Some of my friends say it would be sacrilege to do so, but i just want to know if it can be done.
I dont currently have an old bass id install one on (theres no way i'd butcher my kasuga or musicman) but i do like the idea
Thanks

Looks like it's possible, this website has a good discussion on the topic

Seems there's a bit of risk involved tho....
Les claypool did use one btw

Re: Whammy bar
I believe Hipshot makes some rather decent Bass trems - never used one myself. Off the top of my head they are a Bass-sized version of the Stratocaster trem, so I doubt installing one is a walk in the park by anyone's standards.
So yes, it can be done, but not easily. As a bassist who blocked his Strat's trem (hate tuning with that thing floating), I can't think of any band applications for one, but that's up to you

Re: Whammy bar
Hi there,
I have a tremolo( whammy bar) fitted to my bass. I love. it.
I went with the Khaler rather than the hipshot, I think its a kinda Gibson / Fender , Ford / Holden thing there where you either like one or the other
Glyn from http://www.mrglyn.co.nz fitted it for me last year. It still needs a bit more routing as its too high and I will take it back when I get the new pickups fitted in it

Re: Whammy bar
the Kahler ones got good press. Steinberger also had their version, 'trans-trem'.
I remember the guy from late-era PIL had one.
