Learning a lot of songs in a hurry!

Post by lance » Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:15 pm

 Has anybody had this happen?
Recently tried out for a band had a song list, about 15 songs, already knew about a third of them was a mixture of old and new rock, not such a bad thing but they were by no means classics, any how i learnt the ones i already kind of knew, got to the jam session played the ones i knew, they only knew the old ones i knew the modern ones which they hadnt even started.
So at the end of all this thier other guitarist didnt even turn up, then they told me they have a gig on new years eve at some pub and they wanted to learn 50 songs by then, WTF!!
Not to pull my own knob too much but ok, im good but not that bloody good, then they had the cheek to tell me that i can play my instrument alright, f*#k tell me something i dont know?
Interested to hear from anybody with similar stories?

LOL. That's a lot of songs to learn in two weeks. Could be done though if you water them down a bit.

Yeah I've come across that a couple of times.
Too relaxed and disorganised = very long hard night.

Same here... had to learn 12 Iron Maiden tunes for a tribute in 2 days, and they weren't exactly the easiest ones either... one of the hardest nights I've ever had. Pulled it off though.

Yeah that's tough but really rewarding when it works a. 8)
Pressure seems to make learning stuff so much more effective.
It's just not good when the rest of the band hasn't got their act together.

True that beagle... the thing about that gig i did was that the drummer forgot the accents on Hallowed Be Thy Name totally improvising... man that made the rest of us sound way out of time.
