I certainly prefer 'smaller' forums. Always far more friendly. :D

Hey Foal - not sure that is very typical - bit of blood letting going on

I am enjoying the tranquility here right now though

Yes, I certainly hope so.

Kiwi's are famous for being laid-back, strangely it is sometimes mistaken for inertia or laziness.
I'd go into depth about this but I'm a bit tired.

I assume you're referring to the recent debacle where some guy slagged off a brand of amps, and the guy from the company started sending him abusive pms? It did get a bit heated, and some bans were handed out.

All in all , I think the mods on Talkbass are pretty sharp, and not much gets past them. Just avoid the obviously inflammatory threads (which don't tend to last long before being locked anyway).

Its still the best online resource for all things bass related IMO.

yes, it is good resource. learnt alot.

It seems as though talkbass has quite abit of influnce and power in the bass playing community.

Activebass as Maurice Carr aka Mayor Mo.

I help out with mod duties there.

I toured around the US for two months last year and stayed mostly with people I met in the Activebass forum - great forum and very friendly.

Of course, being a Bill Fitzmaurice authorised cab builder, I frequent the Bill Fitzmaurice forum as well.

I go on talkbass infrequently and even then, only to sus out things like pickups and amps etc. I find there's a lot of young'ns there with chips on their shoulders, smart arsed attitudes and boasting of abilities way beyond what is reality.

I'm a member of about 9, not all of them bass guitar related. Needless to say I don't keep up with all the posts, but that automatic email notification thingy comes in useful and I check other threads while I'm around. Most of the small forums I'm a member of are a bit boring (especially the manufacturers forums) and I often go for months without logging in on some of them and never appear to miss out on much!

I've been on talkbass a while too. Very informative, occasionally obsessive, always interesting.

A couple of time I've toyed with the idea of buying off the TB classifieds - some damn fine deals on occasions. Anybody here given that a go? Some TBers seem ok with shipping overseas. Course I'll be waiting now till the dollar regains some sense of decency (could be a while!).

I also browse the GK user forum, Rickenbacker forum, and RickResource.

The ONLY instrument I've bought through Talkbass was an ex-AC/DC Musicman Cutlass 1 which I had actively been looking for on a number of sites (Gearsluts, Dudepit, Talkbass etc.) It went really smoothly.

Cutlass = Cool. + Extra points for the AC/DC history. Don't see many of them around. Do you still have it? Pic?
