hmm... I know several guitar players who swear by the fast fret. Sounds like a good combo.

No the website is http://www.johnsongtr.com I can't find any info about their strings online maybe they are produced under a different name. I might try and find out a bit more. I am more than happy playing on the rotosounds that I am using at the moment but this shop is literally a couple of doors down from my place and being able to get strings at short notice would be a godsend.

After years of exclusively using Rotosound, it seemed they lost quality in the last year or so, so I've started using Elixir strings. And to be honest I'm finding them to be great....good tension, sound nice and bright, and seem to last quite well.....plus they are coated in some stuff to keep them "lubed". Which is good because I was getting problems with strings (and my fingers) drying out too much.

What say you guys/gals?
Dan. are they the nanoweb or polyweb,i'd love to try a set but the're about $100 a set, i hear they have good mid response, last ages, but alot of complaints about when they 'shed' their polmer coating -yuck. i play fingerstyle but also 20% pick (covers-) and i hear that picks tend to make them 'shed' much quicker.

I think they're nanoweb mate. Before I started using them, I was changing strings every 1-2 weeks, due to the nature of the work I do. Since using the Elixirs, I generally get a month out of them (although when doing a show recently they stayed on for 4 months!).

I've never used a pick on them, but they definitely last. As for the coating coming off, I think I might've had 1 set where that actually happened, but they just felt like 4 week old strings (which they were).

They sit beautifully on the bass, and keep a very good tension. I honestly can't say enough about them, I find them to be great.

welcome damor....
my BTB still has the D'Addario's on it from way back. Kinda unlike me to not change but I am really wondering when they are gonna deaden out while using the fast fret. So far so excellent!!!

6 String Carvin Set
I was in Auckland yesterday so stopped in at Jansen and bought a pack of the Carvin Medium to Heavy gauge strings for my 6 string SoundGear bass. I'll change over to those and finally get to see what they are like. For $40 there's not a lotof risk unless they really suck or they break instantly - normally I'd pay up to $100.

4 String Martin bronze
I could'nt find acoustic bass strings there so stopped in at Weirs on the way into Hamilton and got some bronze Martin acoustic bass strings for my Takamine which is dearly in need of some new metal.

Will let you know how they go.
cheers
