and yeah very much Bass related, sadly.
Good to see you're getting it sorted though... what have they told you to do in order to get it right and still be able to play?
foal30 wrote: so, anyone tried those harness straps that go over both shoulders.
I saw them but never tried. An australian company called colonial leather was making them out of polypro from memory about 15yrs ago. Not sure if they still are the makers or whether some other brand does them. Music Ways was the wholesaler so you could ask your local shop if they still do them.
They were supposed to spread the load across both sholders and apprantly they worked quite well... just looked a bit strange!

what a f--king nightmare this ordering online is.
a complete disaster.

I won't go into the gory details but very disappointed in the "service".
So, anyone who can help an old man get two medium harness straps I be greatly indebted to you.

Hey Foal - sorry to hear about your problem. If you are having problems getting your harness, you could try Cactus Climbing (http://www.cactusclimbing.co.nz). They are a Christchurch based company that make packs/harnesses/clothes for all sorts of uses (backcountry/industrial), and they say they are interested in hearing about 'projects'. If you know what you are after, they would be able to knock something together for you pretty quickly I'm sure. If they like it, they can turn it into a product I guess. May be worth a try, especially since you are close to Christchurch.

Most wives are girlie... well used to be (opps now that's a can of worms... apologies )
Straps however can be trans gender... what sort of gender do you think your strap will be?
Stud's and chains... or tassels and frills? :lol:

Pro;

it does spread the load, Bass feels half the weight, far more endurance for my back

Con;
look even more of a dick
playing in the treble range is virtually impossible, got to "lift" the bass into position making me look even more of a poser.

I got a couple of slider straps off ebay
It's workable, I re-thread the strap adjuster.
fine tuning is the thing, you got to "de-harness".

wives are good but not for the back - try your local orthotics people from the DHB they love custom solutions - Jack Bruce used a discreet black 'propping stool' with cream at the 'albert' you can stand up and sit down with that at the same time - i had a problem a few months back with weight and toward the end of the gig sat on my amp -perfect height as it happend (same height as the propping stool - no one in the band thought i was suffering ,they thought i was just acting cool - even suggested it was a good look - good luck and get a good turkish massuese to throw you about some time.

maybe you could somehow attach velcro to back of bass and have it attach to some velcro on your waistband/belt this would take the weight at a lower centre of gravity and take the load off the shoulder strap (maybe those 'markbass velcro guitar-attach-to-cab things might do just the job), either that or some no. 8 wire.
