Howdy!

Post by 6878dodge » Tue Mar 22, 2011 4:48 pm

Hi Y'all! My name's Brendan,
I've been into American cars for ever & have always thought of learning to play the bass, I finally bit the bullet & bought a bass & amp a few months ago & am slowly picking it up with the help of a good tutor, I also have a friend who's learning the guitar so we keep each other enthusiastic, haven't quite got to the jamming stage yet but I cant wait to be playing. I'm on a few car forums but never thought to look for a bass forum, I was pleasantly surprised to find this one here in NZ, it's great! I look forward to chatting to you guys & learning lots of tips & secrets... cheers!

Thanks guys, Well, my bass isn't anything special, I bought a Squier VM Jaguar bass but I couldnt stand the look of the tortoise shell pick guard (I like the fender ones but the squier finish looks more like vomit) so I bought a white pearl one in from the states & added a chrome bridge cover too, so now I'm a bit happier, when I get a bit better I'm going to get a Ric 4001, I have loved the look of them ever since I saw Cliff Burton's one. I also bought a bass rig off trade me... a Marshall 200w head & a Celestion 4x10 cab...

Brendan - I like it man - car enthusiast, gets into bass, buys first bass, starts customising it - awesome! The white pearl is a clear winner over the tort imho. Welcome man, and trust that you enjoy the journey of becoming a bass player.
Do you have any american cars? Be keen to see them if you have pics...
...in search of the impeccable groove...

Hi Matt & John, Thanks.. I'm glad you approve! I just had to do something haha! yes, I have 2 american cars, one is a '68 Dodge coronet 500, 440 & 4 speed manual (lots of fun to drive but can get a little scarey at times) which I bought in '97, the other is a '69 Dodge A108 van which I bought in 2007, I imported both of them, mechanically they are sweet but they look a little rough on the outside, I'll find some pics for you soon.. cheers.

Hi Brendan.

I agree, that scratchplate has made the bass look very much nicer. Fender should follow your example.

I dunno about the yank car thing though. :D

Hi Jazzbass, yeah, I dont know why fender didn't do it from the start, I'm surprised how much better it looks. as for the car thing, that's just what I'm into (not as much as I used to be though... must be getting old haha) if someone is interested in talking cars then that's cool, I'm keen to share, but right now I'm on a mission to learn the bass, so hopefully I can learn some stuff from you guys & maybe make some new friends in the process :D
