Anyone G.A.S free?

Post by mjwhit » Tue May 05, 2009 1:51 pm

Uugh, i hate GAS. In the last 6 months I have bought two basses, one guitar, an extension cab, and a pedal. Worst thing is that im a student and should not be spending money on gear. To make matters worse, at the moment im very rarely playing out. I seem to spend more time looking for a bargain than practicing...

And now im winning this auction-http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =215941617, and on the market for a fuzz pedal.

Someone make it stop!

I think Talkbass.com is the centre of all this, those guys now how to make you spend money.

So my question is not if you're G.A.S free, rather whats next on your list?

a ported 2x10 for practise...tho the old 1x12 is holding up well enough, so i haven't had too many yearnings for a replacement.

actually i haven't had GAS in a year or so. if anything i'm starting to downsize a bit.

Well last week I thought I was finally GAS free after taking delivery of a sweet 97 MIA Jazz to round out the family (my first talkbass purchase in fact). Then I find out I'm off to the UK for work in a couple of weeks and the voices inside my head are whispering things like ... Status ... vintage Burns ... aaagh! Still, the crappy exchange rate might take care of that.

Once you get G.A.S, there is no stopping it! I've been battling with it recently, I feel like I need to get a new amp, but in realtiy I don't really need one. I'm also starting to drool over some of the sweet firewire audio interfaces for recording available now, but when I do that, I start thinking things like "I should buy a nice MacBook Pro to go with it" and "I'll need to get some sweet mics and maybe one of those cool control surfaces with the motorized faders". G.A.S is a dangerous thing.

I'd love to try the MXR m-288 bass octave deluxe pedal - wow what a mouthful that is! - had an octave pedal years ago - gave it away actually when i went into my austere phase ,and as the continuum of musical evolution goes on, I've re-visited the need for this sound - as it happens "Bass Player" magazine reviewed this model last month and gave it the "editors choice" and i'm keen to have a demo - if anyone knows of a NZ musical instrument shop that stocks this model tell me cause i cant find one and ive had a good look around - sound familiar?
