My latest purchase, the Warwick Hellborg bass preamp. I was always curious to try out one of these units, mainly because they are so expensive to buy brand new. I managed to come across one second hand and got it at a good price so i bought it - since the preamp is meant to be inspired by a channel strip on a neve console. Anyways, i have tried it out now and it is actually very good. I go from the Hellborg preamp thru to the Rane DC24 and it sounds sweet. I am tempted to hear what the Hellborg cabs sound like now, however there are probably none down here in Dunedin. I am also tempted by Barefaced cabs, from what i have heard about them too. Anyways, at the moment i have got my bass going from the Hellborg/Rane DC24 then through Harman Kardon sound sticks and believe it or not, it sounds great because of the sub woofer. Of course the Harman Kardon sound sticks are only suitable for home use. I have a Trace Elliot quad combo if i ever want to turn things up loud

My New 1993 Wal Mk2 four string bass. I havent put strings on it yet, but here it is:

wal bass 2.jpg
wal bass headstock.jpg
wal bas controls.jpg
The controls are unique with low pass filters and frequency boost for each pickup + pick attack (which is a treble boost for both pickups) + the usual master volume and neck / bridge pickup blend.

Cant wait to string it up and start playing - Geddy Lee and Flea are the reasons i have always wanted a Wal, and i cant wait to start playing a bit of their music with this bass :)

Keepin' it simple - Ibanez SR1305 bass, Ampeg Portaflex PF500 head, Ampeg SVT-410HLF cab, Zoom B1on pedal, and a Roland E70 keyboard from the early 90s. I'm hoping to add another bass (or two) and improve my effects options over time, but these are doing the work pretty well for now.

Hiding in the corner is a old Cimar acoustic (made by Ibanez) that I've had for almost 40 years. The tone is fantastic, but unfortunately it was in storage for about five years while I was moving round for work, and the fretboard has split away from the neck. I'd like to get it fixed but it may end up being better replacing it.
When I was a little boy, I told my dad, "When I grow up, I want to be a musician." He said: "You can’t do both, son."
