I've come to two conclusions thanks to this thread and my idea ...

1 - I am not musically travelled as I thought I was.
2 - I am not as musically gifted as I thought I was.

Honestly, some of these bass lines make me want to give up.

I don't slap, so let's rule them out, but I thought I could finger pick pretty well - however - turns out I suck balls. I'm all thumbs.

Ah well, perserverance might be the key (but I doubt it).

Thanks for that nutsie's list ... very interesting.

Hi guys,

First post, been lurking for just over a month and thought I'd add to the already fine comments.

James Jamerson - Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made To Love Her"

info. here: http://www.bassland.net/jamerson.html#drlicks

Apologies if already mentioned :D

Enjoy!

Kerry.

Yeah! LRB had some great lines, agreed that this is one of the best!

How about New York Minute by Don Henley? Pino at his lyrical best.
And Good Times by Chic - Bernard Edwards laying down one of the fattest grooves of all time...
...in search of the impeccable groove...

Some great songs in this thread. I don't think I saw Peg - Steely Dan - Chuck Rainey in there though. It's not my favorite line of all time but it is a nice driving groove that really is fun as anything to play. Plus, I would put "Simple Song" up further on that list (first song I learned when I started playing bass). :)
To each his reach
And if I don't cop, it ain't mine to have
But I'll be reachin' for ya
