Ash Taiaha Fretless-5

Post by ash » Fri Sep 04, 2009 11:11 pm

I was going to post this to let interested parties come and check it out, but the new owner has already taken off with it, so pictures will have to do. This is an Ash Taiaha and it will be living in Dunedin and around the Otago Uni music school for the next few years at least.

Image

Mahogany wings, maple/bubinga/carbon-fibre neck, Gotoh GBS510 tuner glory.

Image

Swamp kauri top and covers, Hipshot bridges

Image

Nordstrand Big-Singles under the covers (noisy bastards by themselves!) and the beautiful Audere Z-mode preamp.

Image

Ebony fingerboard goes up to 28.

Yeah very nice work Adrian.
How many hours would have gone into making that?

Yeah, that is a stunning bass. How big is the hollow chamber?

I have no idea. So many things had to be revised that it took a lot longer than usual. More than 100 hours, less than 200 hours is my best guess. At least I hope it was less than 200 hours.

About the same size as the combined control and battery cavity covers on the other side. More of a weight control measure than an attempt at tonal shaping.
