Re: Met any famous bass players?

Guy Pratt, Dave Swift, Randy HopeTaylor, Winston Bisset, Herbie Flowers, Andy Cichon, Leland Sklar, Laurence Cottle, Doug Wimbish, Chris Mihn-Doky, Victor Wooten. Yeah man - impressive list. Who was the coolest to hang with? Herbie Flowers was probably the most meaningful, I was a fan of his when h...

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

Yeah really good to hear from all that have posted. Hope we hear from Ryan and Jazz1234 soon. Are there any other known CHCH folk on here? Alex Claber used to post here. I texted him and he replied to say he is OK and his house is fine as well. He and/or his colleagues in his group owned the grand ...

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

cheers T-dub, people on my forum were asking after him.

Sad news about a family friend however. She was in the CTV building at the time of the quake and its been deprioritised due to no further signs of life being found. It's not looking good.

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

Any news about Foal30? My family are all ok but we're very concerned for a family friend who we strongly suspect is trapped in the CTV building.

I'd agree with that too. I have all the essentials plus the tone monsters.

Re: Collecting basses

I believe much of the desire to collect (ie. own more than you can justify based on need alone) can be due to two basic reasons. 1) The desire to explore and learn what works for you. 2) The desire to own something interesting and receive recognition from others. I'll reluctantly put my hand up to b...

Re: Genz Benz Shuttles

Ashdown has reliability issues? A few years ago when they established the Chinese manufacturing base, yes. I'm not aware of any issues recently. I have a Shuttle 6, a cracking amp. Everything essential and nothing unnecessary. Really well designed. The only drawback is that it doesn't do 2 ohm load...

If you ever fancy selling the status let me know. Welcome back to NZ BTW, too.

Re: midrange

In my experience, sound engineers tend to take a fairly mechanistic approach to eq-ing bass. That's been happening for decades - ever since the Fender Precision became the studio staple. Engineers could eq a standard instrument in seconds rather than in minutes. Thing is, eqing for the studio and eq...

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Music-instruments/Instruments/Guitar-bass/Bass-guitars/auction-315387188.htm have heard some issues about the longevity of the necks on these but regardless I'd love a go. CK had the musicman version of this so he may add his thoughts for those interested (hopefully) also M...

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

I was woken up by it in Dunedin too and I knew it was going to be worse somewhere else because Dunedin isn't on a fault line. I thought at first it might be centred on South Westland where my gf is but no, she was fine. Then I checked with my folks in Chch and they told me they were clearing up ! Lu...

Re: midrange

Mids boost tends to cause boom actually. Frequencies between 60Hz and 100Hz typically cause boom. Try knocking back these frequencies next time you're on a hollow stage. I'm not fond of the scooped sound at all. Its never worked for me and I can't understand why some people opt for it. My set up is...
