Re: Unusual techniques

If I drop my pick during a fast number, I use my the tip of my index finger (nail mostly for attack) like it was a pick, suupporting it with the thumb in opposition. (who needs a nail file?) - be sure to wipe down between the pick-ups afterwards for all the nail filings.

Re: What's the best action for slap?

It is indeed the mid boost - not playing till the 21st so let you you know how it goes then (I.ll put in a concerted and extended effort testing my slap tone and I'll even put in some honest practice to with it to give it my best shot, my favourite slap song we cover is the obscure "Strip me naked" ...

Re: What's the best action for slap?

OK I'll revisit this, I'll try the contour button on the GK and/or try the thunderguts toggle switch on my bass and see what happens, let you know how that goes.

Re: What's the best action for slap?

I should qualify my earlier post by saying I can slap ok, but the tone/sound I get just doesnt seem to cut through - I have a couple of occasions over a gig where I slap and on both occasions I revert to fingerstyle so I dont fade in the mix.

Re: What's with the Warwick hate???

What you like today, you may not like in 20 years and vice-versa - and how will bass evolve in the next couple decades - or is this it? Will you still have your bass of today, or will it stay at home while the latest bass is worked? - (or will you be in a rest home and deaf)

Re: It made my day when...

It made my day last month when as a requirement of enrolling at St. Peters college, my 11year old elected to learn alto sax - got him a rental from KBB, he can already play national anthem and simpsons theme - a natural. Only disappointment - when asked why not learn bass, he reckons its "Boring" - ...

Re: #1 in your record collection

Love "Still alive and well" - Jonny Winter - grrrreat album - but Shannon dont play on that. Couldnt tell you the most ubiquitous bass player in my record collection - or the no. 1. Currently spinning "Stroke" - Chris Knox covers.

Re: Maton JB 4 Basses

had the pleasure of owning a JB4 fretless bout 20 years ago - lovely tone and playability - good for the jazz group i played with back then, but with no work for the jazz outfit i had it to be ''sold on behalf' in the front window of "Bungalow Bill's" music store when it was on Symonds Street - it d...

Re: I can clean your strings really well!

Made the mistake of recording with brand new roundwounds on an L2 - sounded way too tinny - always figure (for me anyway) is new strings are best after acouple of short sessions - seems to give the mids their head.

Re: I am so over.....

Playing covers is essentially giving your original interpretation on a form whereas playing originals is playing a form of whats already been done originally.

Re: Jack Bruce

its not a matter of being good enough to play with Ginger Baker but having the guts to - "Harmony Row" was my favourite LP from Bruce - and good on him for gigging after a liver transplant.
