Re: just getting rid of a few

Come on, there's someone out there currently trying to decide between that and a Porsche Boxster.

More of a mid life crisis thing than an instrument.

To each their own but I wouldn't use two cabs unless they were identical.

Re: A half decent bass amp under $1k?

They're similar power ratings so I'm sure the Ashdown would have performed equally as well, just a different sound (although still somewhat similar). I'd be happy with either but I would also go with the Ampeg cause it's half the price.

Re: A half decent bass amp under $1k?

The ABM900 has two separate 575 watt power amps in it so unless you have two cabs it's pointless, and even then you probably don't need that much power. I'd go for the ABM500 which is the same thing but a single 575 watt amp, $1500 retail but I bet you can negotiate that by at least 10%. Lovely amps...

Re: A half decent bass amp under $1k?

Keep your cab, Warwick cabs are pretty good (and this is coming from someone who can't stand their heads or basses). Of what you've mentioned I'd go for the Ampeg PF500. A used Ashdown ABM series head would be cool but the Mag stuff is a bit cheap (but not terrible). A used GK 800RB would also be gr...

Re: 4x10 cabs and dip in the mids

From what I can see you're getting the normal sharp rolloff around 2-3k from the LF driver, but this cab also has a horn which isn't taking over where the LF stops, so there's a bit of a gap between the two. Same thing would happen with a 2x12 or 1x15 if designed this way. Seems strange that a "full...

Re: fender

Generally the more you pay the better the fit and finish, but that doesn't mean you're getting a "nicer bass". I've played Squier and MIMs that felt much nicer than USA models. Each bass should be judged individually. You should try everything up to your maximum price and buy the one that feels right.

Curious though, why so many? Even a single one seems to be very loud in most cabs.

Who knows about the cab but provided the head works this is a bargain! Fairly low power but old GK heads sound great.

Re: Learner Bass Warwick Rockbass vs Sterling SUB Series Ray

I'd get a pro setup on your current bass if you haven't already, you might find that keeps you happy for now. Of those two I'm sure both are well build, they are cheap ranges of big brands that don't want a bad rep. You didn't mention tone, keep in mind Stingrays have a really particular sound (real...

Re: Anybody Have A Jansen Bassman?

Timi - what sort of cabinet/speakers are you using with your Bassman 50? Are they pretty efficient? Either an 8x10 or a 2x12, both made by Livesound, basically Ampeg minus the logo. Fairly efficient, but aren't most decent speakers these days? I've used it through a few other cabs (mainly 4x10s) an...
