Re: Pre or Post eq

I used to always demand a mic on my rig, but since giving up and buying a VT Bass I've actually found the ability to tweak my amp EQ only for on stage pretty vital so I go pre (but after the VT). Most of the venues I've played have had subs under the stage, so when that interacts with the low end co...

Re: DI Box - fix or replace?

I can't remember if the DI was plugged in or not, but it was buzzing just through the 8x10 itself... don't think the DI was plugged in as I was just getting a stage sound. It matters because that could be a source of the buzz (although it's starting to sound like the actual bass). Next time it happ...

Re: DI Box - fix or replace?

Last night (Saturday) we played at the Backbeat bar in K-Rd (above the Rock Shop) and I used my Ashdown amp and plugged it into their Ampeg 8x10 - with my active pickups on it was buzzing just through the 8x10 - switch the pickups to passive and buzzing hardly noticible. Even if it wasn't coming ou...

Re: DI Box - fix or replace?

Another option would be to buy an inline XLR barrel ground lifter and just use the built in DI on your amp. I'd still rather use a vocal mic than a DI... thanks for that - someone on talk bass posted a picture of a 'ground lift adaptor' - that you plug onto the XLR cable then plug in to the DI, but...

Re: DI Box - fix or replace?

Is it active or passive? If active have you tried it with both batteries and phantom power? If it looks like there aren't any loose wires then it's probably not going to be a quick job. No idea what DI box you have but if it's cheap it won't be worth paying someone to fix. I highly doubt they will o...

Re: TC Electronics Class D Amplifiers

Drew at the Music Room was talking about 'headroom' also. From what I understand it's the ability for an amp and cab and guitar to cater for a dynamic range e.g. if you are playing quietly down low and then suddenly want to hit a high note with some volume, the amp can compensate for that transitio...

Re: TC Electronics Class D Amplifiers

My local music room man Drew is tempting me with a new Hartke Hydrive 4 x 10 cab he's got in the store. Make sure you try some other cabs for comparison, aluminum drivers aren't for everyone but they're bright so might be your thing. No experience with those TC heads but I'd definitely get the more...

Re: Video recording / editing

So it sounds like you don't want to pay a professional. Perhaps see if you can find some students at South Seas or a similar film/video course who want some experience and beer money.

Re: Video recording / editing

I've got some friends who can do this. They're video guys so the most they could probably do in terms of audio is take a feed from the desk, ideally you'd want to take splits from the snake for full control later.

What sort of quality are you after and what sort of budget?

Re: Chromes vs TI Flats

Depends how much you play and how much chicken grease is on your hands but I think 2-3 months for them to come right. The TIs on my Tiesco are about 18 months old and sound fantastic, the ones on my Jazz are only a month old and don't sound right yet.

Highly recommend you do some research into mixing cabs, but the general consensus is don't. It was an 80s thing, like many 80s things it wasn't a good idea.

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

Notoriously unreliable amp used without adequate ventilation for the top mounted fan (as per the manual), I hope nobody here got that one!
