I see there are some cheap cabs on Trademe Don't skimp on the cab, bad cabs are the worst. Why not a combo? Doesn't sound like you need anything huge. if yo...

So probably not something that you want to imprint any tone on what's coming out of the PA, I'd get a decent DI box before trying to run out of the line out of a practice amp.

Re: quick amp question

What about something like the GK MB112-II? 1x12, 200 watts, 13kg!! , built in DI with pre/post switch. $800 retail so I guess $700ish? Depending on how big your PA is it might replace your 4x10 rig if you just need it for onstage monitoring... Or a few hundred more (and a kg or two) for a 500 watt 2...

Re: Can't decide on a new amp

That amp is geared towards recording or live when you have really low stage volume.

If you like Ashdown you should check out their Mag range, you could get a 300 watt head and 4x10 for around your budget.

Re: Synth bass (on keyboard)

Just finishing up a record where a few songs use a Moog Lil Phatty for bass. It's not mine and kinda bulky so was looking into smaller stuff for shows (like Novation and Arturia) but it's still too much hassle for 2-3 songs. I'm close enough with my bass into an EHX octaver and MXR envelope (plus a ...

I have a Livesound cab which has Beta12s in it, but I often use my bandmates cab (I think it's a Bassman 2x12) which also has Betas. Sounds great.

Re: Buying Basses in NZ

You just need to make sure that a decent hard case comes with your bass, in which the retailer can ship it to you in. I've imported several basses in gig bags inside the factory shipping box with no problems. Or maybe save the opportunity if you happen to visit Oz for a holiday, just take you cloth...

Re: Tech21 Sansamp Bass driver - Love 'em or hate 'em?

The new(ish) VT Bass DI is pretty cool, particularly how they've added the independent bite button (rather than having that treble boost as part of the speaker sim) along with a blend control and an XLR out. Sold my Leeds to buy one, really liking it. http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/images...

While I wouldn't try and sell something above RRP, I really hate it when someone feels the need to undermine your auction. Dick move imo.

Re: Psycho-acoustic enhancement for Bass

Cheap compressors seem to flatten and dull the sound, I know compressors obviously flatten dynamics but cheap ones often do it in a very uninspiring way. The 3630 would want to see line level which is why it works better in the loop (along with being able to blend). I'd probably look at a DBX160 or ...

Re: Psycho-acoustic enhancement for Bass

I might be wrong here, but isn't the Sonic Maximizer just "mid scoop and make it louderer" as apposed to the Aphex Exciter which is actually doing some harmonic and phase related stuff?

Also so seems a shame to be using an Alesis compressor with your otherwise high quality setup.
