Re: Our Sunday Jam

Coming from a non-musical family (yep... I'm the wierd artistic one that fails maths), I've never jammed with anybody related to me. I have a cousin who is a violin prodigy, and his sister is a cellist, but if I ever flew over to see them I'd feel like the odd one out. Having said that, I'm rather j...

Re: What strings do you play?

Is it that they last so long that music shops don't want to stock them perhaps? I think it's more to do with the fact that it's not very economical to stock them. Let's face it, musicians are a niche market, and little 'ol NZ isn't exactly on top of the population chart. Bassists are an even smalle...

Re: Bass head and headphones

@model.citizen: Maybe my amp is odd... It sounds like a mid-scooped and bassy set of the studio monitors plugged into my computer. Maybe I got lucky on that regard, but in terms of raw bass tone it's terrible if you leave the EQ flat. Can't wait for that new bass rig... @Kelburn: in light of model.c...

Re: Bass head and headphones

It depends on the cab you buy, I guess. AFAIK bass cabs (especially cabs like 4x10s with horns) are a lot closer to being full-range than guitar cabs, so I don't think the tone will be wildly different. Expect it to be warmer, deeper, and less trebly, though. Oh, and much, much louder. On that note,...

Re: String changes

Plus I have never ever cleaned or oiled a fretboard in my life :? Is that a requirement ? Personally I clean (and occasionally oil) when I change strings, but then again I'm known among my friends for giving my bass a lot of TLC. Off the top oif my head, finished fretboards don't need maintenance, ...

Give me heat!

Or something like that. Suggest me some overdrive pedals to go check out? I'm looking for the warm, fuzzy, not-quite-breaking-up valve tone for bass. Otherwise I might just give up and buy a Blackstar HT-OVERDRIVE to play my Strat through... I've been GASing for that for a while. I just want to know...

Best thing about a pair of vertically stacked 2x10s: You don't need to carry both at the same time.

That's one of the few StingRay color schemes that gets me drooling. Damn you, Trademe, and your so-good-you'll-regret-missing-them deals!

Isn't it funny how nobody sells what you want for a good price when you have the money to pay for it?

Re: Show us your Bass!

I always wondered about this, but what's the point of putting the "thumbrest" under the strings? No wonder Fender deleted them on more modern basses. If I remember correctly, the '75 Reissue Jazzes have them in the "right" place. Your Squier's is conspicuously missing... Hmm. Sorry for threadjacking...

Hang on... the "lightweight" Neo 410 is 10kg lighter than a SWR Goliath.

I didn't know the difference was that small... Maybe the Goliath just looks mega-heavy.
