Re: Show us your Bass!

I swear I've seen that Squier around on the forum somewhere.

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

You can have a go for that one if you have the money. I suspect that I'll regret settling for a red one, and either end up destroying it (the fate of my Squier Strat), or selling it (the fate of my Epi LP).

It's Jaguar Bass GAS, alright, but not over the red ones. :?

Re: Suitable cab for Jansen Bass 75?

+1 on a 4x10. If you decide you want some more speakers, you can always stick a 2x10 or another 4x10 on top. Hoffman's Iron Law (Paraphrased Edition) states that out of low, loud, and lite, you can have at most two. I like my amps loud and low, and I'm prepared to put up with two 4x10s and a rackmou...

Collecting basses

So why do we do it? I'm trying to figure out the reason behind my GAS by thinking rationally (which, of course, is doomed to failure - GAS isn't rational or we wouldn't have it), but I know it's not the search for elusive tone. Trying to figure out why I want a Jaguar Bass, two Jazzes (one as a spar...

'Tis worth reading, indeed.

Excuse me, I need to go remind a certain soundman that the PA is Sound Reinforcement, not Sound Replacement.

Re: NAMM Photos of Ampeg Gear ...

On a practical note, it's very easy to maintain/repair hand-wired stuff, isn't it? Arguably there's less points of possible failure as well.

Darned slow internet, I'll have a look at the Mesa goodness when I go into the office tomorrow.

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

Isn't it odd how there's always something on trademe when:

1) You aren't that interested in it
2) You have no money

But when:

1) You want it
2) You have money
3) You want it and have money (which is rare)

They're nowhere to be seen?

Re: My Favourite Bass Players

Off the top of my head: Amos Heller (currently with Taylor Swift Band - Jazz), Mike Dirnt (Green Day - Precision), Pete Wentz (Fallout Boy - Precision). Forgot what Rick Savage (Def Leppard) plays. Japanese bassists: OKP-Star (Tomohisa Okada) - Aqua Timez. Bassist for the Angel Beats! Project. Fasci...

Re: Bridges and tuners

Pretty sure the extra sustain would be noticed (if anyone is actually listening to the bassist in the first place...)

I'm hazarding a guess that they sound like nylon tapewounds. Personally I'll stick with Fender's black ones.

Re: Splitting my combo amp

The head of the combo should have a speaker output on the back somewhere? You could just plug a longish speaker cable into that, if you're just wanting to try out a different cab for a change, then make a box for the head if you like the cab. Saves on effort if you decide you don't like the other ca...

Re: Bridges and tuners

Tl;Dr: Cheapo hardware is a false economy. Upgrading cheapo basses is also a false economy. Used gear for cheap, on the other hand... :D :D :D When I see an $80 price tag on a set of tuners I have to wonder if that's really worth it. Depends on the tuners. There's great $80 tuners and ok $80 tuners....
