Re: cab building...

If it's well braced internally 12mm ply is fine. I have built three cabs using 12mm Baltic birch and I reckon they are virtually bomb proof IMO. It is important to use a good quality ply though. Generally, you wont find that down at your local DIY superstore, unfortunately. Baltic birch generally co...

Re: cab building...

Just my opinion... 30mm ply is total overkill for the average, well-designed, bass cab. I've built three BFM cabs now using 12mm ply with appropriate bracing and they are utterly bomb-proof. I personally believe it is important to source good quality ply as some of the sh1t you find in builder's mer...

Re: What CD should every bass player have?

Chris Squire should be in any such list, so anything from Yes would do, but I'd suggest 'Fragile' for first-timers :)

Re: YouTube Clips - Your Favorite Bassists in Action

Haha!

Great stuff! What really makes it for me though, is that if you scroll it to the top of the screen, MeshuggahN8's avatar appears to be dancing in almost perfect time :D

I know....I'm easily pleased.... :D

Re: What's your rig?

Hi Steve, When the outputs of two passive pickups are directly mixed/blended together ..... A further advantage lies in the ability to process the two pickup signals in different ways...... Some people go the whole hog and run each pickup to a separate rig (as I used to do with a pair of Ashdown co...

Re: Want to try out Bill Fitzmaurice Design Cabs???

Yup! Another BFM devotee here :D I have five cabs, built three myself and had an authorised UK builder (like Harley) make the other two. They should not be considered as a budget option however, they are high-end, custom designed cabs :) EDIT: If you want to see some videos and sound clips of variou...

Good to see you over here Ken :D

I really can't believe I've never asked you this on finnbass, but what is the advantage of using two preamps and summing the result?

Re: cab building...

I think Boris's cabs look bigger than they really are - the Eminence Beta 10" powered cabs are not that heavy and they project a remarkable bass sound for their size and weight, although they are not dub reggae cabs. Beyond is entirely correct.... Here is another photo with a Staffordshire Bull Ter...

Re: Wall Mount

I really like those Hercules auto-grab mounts. You can get them as floorstands as well that hold either 1, 2 or 3 basses. There's also two types of wall mounts. The one shown, which uses a small block of wood, and onother with a metal plate that screws directly to the wall. http://img3.musiciansfrie...

Re: cab building...

Bill's absolutely right, well he should be, he's the expert IMO. Another factor to consider however is the quality of the wood being used. If you can get hold of good quality Baltic birch 12mm ply and use it in a well-designed cab it will be virtually bomb proof. Cheaper ply's are typically full of ...

Re: How little would you play for?

We have a New Years Eve gig we play every year, for a law firm. We get $500 a band member and then on top of that, at the end of the evening the senior law partner gives us each a $100 bill! Language is a wonderful thing....in the UK a 'bill' is an invoice :D But there again a 'fag' is a cigarette ...
