Re: Solid state heads - GK or Ampeg? (or SWR?)

Thanks foal, I actually got the sale of the century just yesterday and scored a mesa 4 x 10 for $300...pretty stoked with that! She's a bit rough around the edges, but as long as it's just cosmetic, I don't really care! I guess I'll know for certain when I plug in over the weekend :D Anyway, I'm in ...

Re: Solid state heads - GK or Ampeg? (or SWR?)

Just a quick update... I went for an Mesa M-pulse 600. Got it at a great price, and it has the power that I was after. Also, has a tube pre, which is fantastical. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test it out yet as I haven't got a cab yet! On the lookout for one now. Looking forward to giving it...

Re: Solid state heads - GK or Ampeg? (or SWR?)

Thanks for your input all! It's all just a matter of preference I guess. Hard to know without trying first, so I guess I'll have to go window shopping for some window shattering goodness. Now I just really have a question about Watts. The 800rb I'm thinking of is only 300w (+100w for the highs in bi...

Re: Solid state heads - GK or Ampeg? (or SWR?)

My total budget for head+cab(s) is 2.5k... I previously had my old 700rb head hooked up to a Warwick 4x10...really wasn't happy with the sound... however when I ditched the Warwick 4x10 and got my fridge, the GK sound was much closer to what I was aiming for. ...I also find it hard to trust a brand ...

Solid state heads - GK or Ampeg? (or SWR?)

Hi all, So, I'm on the hunt for a new rig since coming back from overseas. I was playing guitar in a band before I left, and stashed my gear here while I was away. Now that I'm back, I've gone back to the bass (and am loving it)....but I need to acquire a rig. I'm selling my guitar rig (worth about ...

Re: NBD! Fender Aerodyne - MIJ (Unboxing)

Haha, yeah, thanks Timi, I just couldnt find anywhere that stocked them, and since mexi fender P's are about 1200, and from what I'd heard the build quality of MIJ basses are superior, I rolled with it. Plus I dig the P and j pickup configuration. Sounds great. Needs a setup for sure though, I play ...

NBD! Fender Aerodyne - MIJ (Unboxing)

Oh yes, the guys from BassCentral.com pulled through in a big way. All up, including shipping this beauty set me back $1000. Best deal ever if you ask me. The neck is so smooth, it makes Barry White sound like sandpaper. (Cause Barry's pretty damn smooth, ya dig?). https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/ph...

Re: What's your rig?

why not buy 2x 4x10's? I was actually going to buy another 4x10...it was basically just a stoke of luck that we played a gig last weekend, and the backline was provided, and there was a big sexy 8x10 for a fraction of the cost I'd seen them on trade me for (second hand, but seriously, you wouldnt b...

Re: What's your rig?

Cheehoo. I just bought a livesound 8x10 myself, and its frikin awesome. :D Sounds epic..can go ultra loud (as you'd expect from a beast like that), and the tone is perfect. Too bad I dont have a mint as bass, but it makes such a difference compared to what i was running before. Works sweet as with m...

Re: Portability - How portable are your cabinets?

Next question is, will I void the warentee if I remove the grills and spray them flat black and put a huge stencil of our bands "Speaker stack on flames" logo..... Warrenty? Whats that? All of my gear seems to be fine for the first year under warrenty, then on the 13th month at least 1 thing will s...

Re: Let's play "Spot the Muso"

I really rate originality and energy the most - tightness and even ability to play an instrument 'properly' come 2nd to me. Id rather see an interesting band play badly than a boring tight band! I couldnt agree with you more there defininte. If a bands jumping around, or has that kind of buzz about...

Re: Portability - How portable are your cabinets?

Wow. Thats awesome, a cab in one hand! And i just checked the price at the rockshop for those neodyn cabs, and they're way cheaper then expected...still dont think I'd buy another Warwick cab tho. My Warwick 4x10 is a beast..it had casters when i got it, but they crumbled away in the first few month...

Re: WIRELESS SYSTEMS

I love having the freedom of wireless, but the hassle of batteries and tone is what puts me off. I bought a cheap JTS wireless system off TM last yeah, and was absolutly stoked with it...for about 5 minutes. I did look at the frequency range before i bought, however the problem is whenever i play my...
