Re: Chris Squire is on his way ...

A huge loss ... Like countless others, Chris was one of the reasons I first picked up the bass in the 1970s and definitely the inspiration for getting my first Rickenbacker. He was one of those great players of that era (along with the likes of John Entwistle and Jack Bruce) that redefined what rock...

Re: Chris Squire is on his way ...

A brief follow up to Yes' show in Auckland on April 1st ... it was a great gig, all the more impressive for being the first night of a new tour, with a new singer. The new vocalist nailed it and the band sounded like they were enjoying themselves. More importantly, Squire's playing and tone was full...

Chris Squire is on his way ...

Hope this isn't an April Fool's joke... but Yes are playing the Vector Arena on 1 April next year. I'm yet to be convinced about the latest Yes incarnation (no Jon Anderson) ... but my ticket's booked and I'm getting set for some delicious Squirey Rickenbackerness!

Pretty sure Bass Central will ship out this way too.

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

Hi guys. Finally got a chance to check in here ... great to see there's plenty of good vibes towards us shakey characters. When the quake hit I was on the 7th floor of the central police station (my office, not the cells!) which really rocked and shook hard. Dived under my desk then eventually made ...

Re: Bad news & good news

now they know what kinda bass they're likely to score when they boost the car!  Refer gigging rule no. 1 ... Never leave gear in the car! ... and I'm not sure too many of the car thieves round here would get the reference! I think a lot of New Zealand's Rick 4001 players are going to b...

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

Yeah that map is amazing. Shows there's been a whole lot o' shakin' goin on! Must be Welly's turn soon ... The rate of aftershocks seems to be slowing down now, city's slowly coming back to life but for a lot of people it's going to be a long slow process of rebuilding. It'll be interestin...

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

Pretty much unscathed at my place. Few ornaments bust and a bit of cracking in the plaster. Kittycat ran away and didn't turn up till 6pm :( Basswise ok, GK rig fell over in the garage though ... 210 cab and amp (700RBII in rack case) toppled over and put a hole in the wall, kncked over two bikes wh...

Re: GK MB212 500W NEO 2X12 Combo

I can't speak for the combo but those GK Neo speakers generally have a good reputation. I have the Neo 210 and 115 cabs and like 'em both. The 212 cab always seems to get rave reviews - do a trawl thru the Talkbass forums and you'll see plenty of love for that cab. So it could be a winner in the com...

Re: What's your rig?

TErig1.jpg Hello Trace Elliot. Here's my new (old) rig. T-Dub’s former AH250 MkV has been joined by a couple of cabs (1048T 4x10 and 1153T 1x15) and this is now officially a monster rig! I originally got the head and 115 as a practice rig but now with the 4x10 it’s sounding massive. Incredible punc...

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

Neck profile tends to be a little squarish, like they've taken a 4 string neck, sliced it down the middle and inserted an extra laminate to give the width. But its not uncomfortable at all. Nice growly sound without the brittle attack too. Hi Crazykiwi ... seller says it's a 35" scale - does that s...
