Re: Rock track recorded with MXR M-80 D.I

Hopefully I don't need to state the obvious but you did click the big play arrow? It takes a couple of seconds to start buffering/start playing. Does it come up with any error messages like "you don't have the latest version of xxxxxx"?

Rock track recorded with MXR M-80 D.I

Hey fellas, Haven't been on here for ages, thought I'd share some of what I have been up to. Here's a tune I recorded a few months back, did the whole bloody thing in Garageband, it was such a nightmare that I am now the proud owner of Logic Pro. Mixing in Garageband was my personal hell. Having to ...

MXR M80 Preamp/EQ/Distortion - Review

Bought one of these bad boys off Amazon a few weeks back, and thought I should give a quick review. I'll get the bad stuff over with first - you might as well forget about the distortion channel on the thing, unless you like sounding like a power tool. It ain't pretty. So once you've gotten over the...

Wow, that looks cool, a bit simpler than the jaguar bass with all it's silly switches.

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

Yep, it's starting to wear a bit thin, luckily all the old crap stone buildings had fallen down or were already cordoned off otherwise we would have had more fatalities. The 6.0 was pretty much on par with February, maybe one decent sideways shake less. A few more cracks in the walls at home, but no...

Re: Talkbass forum

Yeah, that talkbass site seems like there's a line-up of gear snipers that'll take aim and fire at anyone who dares mention something less than stellar. Sometimes I wonder if the gear snobs actually own the gear or they are just BS merchants. I think this site is a lot more supportive and friendly b...

Re: Gigs

I've been doing the covers thing for 12 years now and agree with the key points that others have raised. 1 - Keep your originals band and covers band separate. 2 - Treat pub gigs as a marketing exercise. The amount of weddings and decent paying private gigs we get from punters getting our card at th...

Re: Anyone G.A.S free?

I've put a 2 year ban on myself from buying gear. If I had saved over the last 2 years instead of buying all sorts of stuff from home recording gear through to DIY guitar parts, I would have been able to afford my dream axe. So it's only strings and maintenance purchases for the next 2 years. It's g...

Re: Man, Chch Rocks!!

My family and I are are all safe and well. We've had quite a few people staying with us in the last few days, we were lucky enough not to lose power or water so we were a bit of a base station for family that were without services. The Western side of the city seems to have gotten off a lot lighter ...

Re: New Warmoth Build

To my surprise, the neck showed up yesterday - 5 weeks earlier than expected, so I'm a happy camper. I am very impressed with the quality of the fret work and the CNC precision cut nut. Probably the nicest neck I've seen, much tidier than my Gibson. And the Satin Nitro finish feels great!! So if you...

Re: NAMM Photos of Ampeg Gear ...

On a practical note, it's very easy to maintain/repair hand-wired stuff, isn't it? Arguably there's less points of possible failure as well. Tag strip (usually used in these hand wired/point to point amps) can be a real pig to desolder compared to a pad on a PCB. You need a freaking good soldering ...

Re: NAMM Photos of Ampeg Gear ...

I thought so at first, but when you consider that people buy them because they feel that they are getting the analogue sounds of the 50's and 60's ... there is something to be said for making something like the way it was made back then. You make a good point - they feel like they are getting the s...

Re: Bridges and tuners

Upgrades like this should be about function rather than tone. Don't swap a crappy bridge on a cheap bass to improve the sound, swap it to improve stability and to give you more accurate adjustment.

Handwired = a load of marketing bollocks.
PCBs are the shizz.
