Re: Need to know guitar before learning bass?

i think that learning bass first helps with guitar skills. keeping rythm etc

when i have a jam session with my mates i always have a jam on theyre guitars and im actualy not too bad  lol but if they try to pick up my fender and give it a try they sound like sh*t excuse my french.

Re: Thumb position

i have this really good bass technique book and it says something about having the thumb on the pickup being better because its the natural position of the hand and causes far less strain and later damage to the hand.

could be bullshit but it seems to work for me

Re: Pick guard or No Pick guard

normally i would say leave the guard off but on this particular bass i think it looks a bit plain without it.

Re: if someone asks you to play them a song on the bass

one of the biggest problems with bass is that its almost impossible for a begginer to sortof "show off"and show how good you are.
it gets a little frustrating sometimes.lol. i sometimes play along with my ipod which is also good practice.

Re: Taper(wound) bass strings - you like?

i went to the rockshop and asked for the best strings they had and they gave me some nickel wound medium gauge d'addario strings and ive never used anything else. with the nickel strings they make bad fret noises but once you get some wear into them they sound great.

Re: What's the greatest bass?

i play an ashton four string wich seems pitiful compared to you others favorites. but she works well for me and i like the sound and considering i cant afford a better bass it makes it even better.

i consider the best bass to be what works and feels good for you
