Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

Hi, Just couldn't quite afford to bid on that P bass. It's amazing what some slabs of wood, a few screws and wires, a bit of paint and lots of Mojo and History will get you these days. Anyone got any thoughts about the Fender Jazz 61 Reissue jazz with the stacked knobs on TM at the mo. Anyone know t...

Warwick Streamer LX conversion to Passive

Hiya from Gisborne I haven't been here much lately. Life has been busy and other things have intruded on my bass playing. But this year I am intending to get back into the 'thump' of things. I've just sold my Jack Casady bass on TM. Sorry to see it go but really I wasn't using it. Fastest sale ever ...

Re: Jack Casady to the Rescue

I really loved his solo. It was all about note choices and spaces rather than playing lots of notes and filling up all the spaces.

Re: Counter melodies

Thanks for the suggestion Foal. I also like the sixth going to the third. But sometimes the sixth raises eyebrows!

Counter melodies

Can anyone illuminate for me the principles involved in playing 'counter melodies' and how you might go about doing that without driving the singers in your band crazy and giving you the evil eye because you have strayed away from the root notes. Apparently Paul McCartney was a master at this.

Re: Kala U-Bass

Just though I'd add that I am now for the time being the bass player in a Gisborne Uke's band. We play oldies and classics and have a monthly jam here in Gisborne with other uker's. Only two of us play bass at the moment and we both play Kala Ubass. Good fun and once your used to the bennndyyy strin...

Colin Edwin

Just wanted to add Colin Edwin to the list. Sorry if someones already mentioned him. I checked but may have missed. I've been listening to a lot of Porcupine Tree and Colin's bass is just bedrock. Solid, unflashy and he hits all the nice notes, plus he always seems to have an enigmatic smile on his ...

Re: Hartke bass combo issue

Thanks for the response Marty. I've taken it back to where I bought it and it will go off to the servicing guy. It looks like it may be a problem with the initial protection circuit that fires up when first starting up. If I shut it down after after it has warmed up the tubes after first start up wh...

Hartke bass combo issue

Hi Fellow bass players. Haven't posted for ages. Happy New Year and may the live gigs flow in for you all. A question for you bass amp experts: I have a newish Hartke 210 500 watt bass combo with the Neo dynamiun speakers. When I turn it on, after a couple of seconds it makes a horrible booming scre...

Re: Hartke HA5500 at low volumes

Well the solution emerged for me this arvo. From the local independent Music Room shop owner Drew, I bought a new Hartke 210 500 watt combo. He allowed me to trade in the Hartke Hydride 115 cab for a reasonable price (which I had originally bought from him) and I've kept the 410 Hydrive cab. So now ...

Re: Hartke HA5500 at low volumes

Thanks Marty, Yes I did wonder whether the size of the Hartke rig might be off putting, that's why I used the Bronco. So leave it on the floor. Would it be good to angle it up slightly though with a wedge or something or leave it parallel to the floor level. We were playing on a small deck outside t...

Hartke HA5500 at low volumes

Just fishing for some info about the above head used at continuous low volume. I'm playing a Fender Am Std passive jazz. I gig (winery places) with 3 women, one of whom plays an acoustic guitar and sings her originals, the other women sing harmonies. On the last gig I thought I could get away with m...

Re: The Bravos

I'd recommend you go along to open mic nights, jam nights, music clubs, advertise on nzbands.co.nz or rockshop classifieds... whatever you can do to meet and jam with other musos of any level. It doesn't pay to be fussy until you can afford to be... just put yourself out there and say yes to anythi...
