Re: Kiwi Bass Player Hall of Fame

I'll add my 2c with Jack Stradwick (Headband) - he always played a groove a mile wide.

Re: What's your rig?

Been through a few rigs over the years: SWR SM900 head with Goliath Snr cab: awesome power that I could never use, and couldn't quite get the vintage vibe I was looking for Traynor YBA 200 all valve head with YBX1510 cab: awesome vintage tone and more than enough power, but a heavy rig to shift, los...

My bassmen picks

For me, number 1 is Motown's James Jamerson, closely followed by Bob Babbit, with honerable mentions to Paul McCartney and Donald 'Duck' Dunn (R.I.P).

Yep, I'm an old bugger and these guys set the groove for me.

Re: Gidday

Charlie has a lot to answer for, he sold me my Rickenbacker in 1981, and I've never been able to play a cheap bass since (which I told him when I was down in Christchurch last year, and we both had a good laugh)

Re: Show us your Bass!

I haven't heard of a Lightwave pickup system either. Is it a piezo/preamp thing? Yeah, most peoples reaction is WTF???? Re: How'd you start your love affair?

I'd been playing guitar for quite a few years but wasn't good enough to get gigs as a lead player, then I found out there were no available bass players in Christchurch (were talking late '70's here), so I traded the guitar on a bass at CJ' music shop, and had my first gig 1 week later, and haven't ...

Re: Show us your Bass!

I've had a lot of basses over the years including Ibanez, Yamaha, Rickenbacker, Pedulla, Lakland and many more. Just before Christmas last year I decided that my Lakland 5 string bass was too heavy for my ageing back and started looking for a lighter weight option. I'd been fasinated with the Lightw...

Gidday

Just dropped in to say hi, I'm a long time bass player (30+ years), and have played in stage, tv, recording and touring situations around NZ over the years. These days I'm using Lightwave basses (http://lightwave-systems.com/) with a VL 5 string fretted and a VL 5 fretless. Awesome instruments which...
