Re: Repair of 1980 Rhodes Piano

Wow. Amazing work!!!! Thanks John! Yeah that's very cool. How long did it take you to do the whole project? Thanks Beagle and sorry, I thought I had the time in the post but I must of edited it out. About 25 hours spread over 2 months, only on weekends and I was lucky if I got to spend half a day o...

Re: Repair of 1980 Rhodes Piano

Sorry, this is turning into a novel! Once all 12 were re-wound and back in place, new wire jumpers were soldered on to connect them in series to the other pick-ups: IMG_0524.JPG IMG_0523.JPG You can see the state of the other "good" pick-ups and the piano in general. I've had a good close look at al...

Repair of 1980 Rhodes Piano

I thought I would post a few pics of a little project I have just finished - repairing a 1980 Rhodes 54 Piano (54 keys) that belongs to an Uncle-In-Law. He had been asked to get rid of it for someone but had instead diverted it to his garage where it has sat for at least 15 years. He cornered me at ...

Re: 'Summer' build project

Wicked! Thanks for posting this, very interesting and inspiring. I'm planning to build a bass or guitar one day myself and am slowly researching the process. Great that you can spend time with your son on the project, very valuable.

Re: Who can test valves?

Have you tried contacting your local Amateur radio club? http://www.nzart.org.nz/assets/nparc/index.html Those guys if anyone should be able to help. Otherwise, DIY and search the web. Depends on how you want to test them I suppose, what you want to verify. A quick web search brought up a tester htt...

Re: What's your rig?

How it have a 2 k cut off and still go up to 5 k? I don't really understand how these cabs work is it something to do with the design? Very interesting Sorry John, it's actually 3.5kHz which is still pretty good (was at work and rushed it a bit. will edit my post. ). The filter doesn't cut a...

Re: What's your rig?

Cool build thread on those jacks Jono. Can I ask what the crossover is for? Since you didn't build them with tweeters. Is it a high pass filter to filter out the sub bass frequencies? Also since it has no tweeters around what frequency does it start to cut off? They are a low pass filter with a 2kH...
