Re: BASS / AMP PICTURE THREAD :: Get your cameras ready!

My dream/actual line-up comprises passive Fenders and active Stingrays. From left to right, with my personal seedings/rankings in brackets, my bass family is: * White Limited Edition 2011 EBMM Stingray5 classic (1) - one of 100 5 strings made * Sunburst Fender Jazz 2006 Fretless MIM (6) - modded wit...

Re: Whats the favourite gig....

Well it's not memorable yet but I'm hoping it's about to be. On Wednesday we head over to UK to do a crazy 3 week junket to play in London, Glastonbury (yes, the Glastonbury music festival), Belgium, and the Montreux Jazz Festival. I'm especially hoping that Glasto and Montreux will become my memora...

Re: BPNZ User Youtube Thread!

My first contribution to the BPNZ YouTube thread. Was from our 10th anniversary show at the Powerstation last year... much fun. I used to be quite tunnel vision when it came to funk and thought that nothing really could beat a Stingray, and I still think they are tops. But every now and then there c...

Re: Downsizing my rig - anyone done it?

I highly recommend the GK Microbass series. They're a combo with an extension out for adding an extra cab. It can pump out 150 watts when combined with an extension cab. The inbuilt speaker is 12 inch and sounds clear and appropriately clean + deep. The amp has a great form factor and is small and l...

Re: Are there less bands right now?

You raise some real good points that I'd not thought of Marty... Stuff like bars / venue ownership and even just the price of a drink. Alcohol limits, generic music, the way we buy / listen to music, and technology. That's just it, the options for entertainment are more than say 20 years ago. I like...

Re: Are there less bands right now?

I would also add a 7th point to the above... specifically my being interested in how music retailers - both CD / vinyl stores and instrument shops - are doing in NZ towns and cities. Are there less or more, or just the same? I was in Taupo recently and couldn't find an instrument store near the CBD....

Re: Are there less bands right now?

Plight of the local musicians and the local scene perhaps? That's an interesting take on things, in terms of measuring the scene by bass ads. I'm sure there could be a myriad of ways to measure and observe how much people are/aren't getting into music, either by partaking/playing or being a supporte...

Re: Female Bass Players

There's one chick (Hannah Elise) who's pretty handy on the bass who plays for an Auckland band (but they do play outside of Aucks) called Hipstamatics. They do covers but spruce them up real nicely. I think she usually plays a P or a J. She's got a great feel.

Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson with Bruno Mars

Man, I'm totally digging the bass part to this song. Nice slap feel. What's everyone else's thoughts on this song? Anyone else out there in BPNZ land digging it?
The chord arrangement reminds a little of "Ladies Night" by Kool & the Gang.

Re: Why did the Ampeg cross over the road?

Thanks all for your extremely helpful feedback. I probably ought to have given the disclaimer that I'm bi(amp) curious. :D If it was going to be a matter of simply adding a reasonably priced crossover then yeah I could be tempted to try one out in-store... and if it gives me discernible improvement ...

Re: Why did the Ampeg cross over the road?

Hi CJJ, Yeah I saw a photo of your rack setup with crossovers etc (in the What's your Rig? feed) and remember thinking "wowzers that's quite the setup" . But looks far more complicated than my setup. I wonder if I am to take the speakon output from my amp head, send that to an input on the crossover...

Why did the Ampeg cross over the road?

Hi BP, I've been reading the forums here and on Talkbass re: using 1x15 and 4x10 and how it's not the ideal configuration i.e having matching cab speaker sizes (solely 10s, 12s, or 15s) is the way to go. Nonetheless this is what I have... 1x Ampeg SVT3pro, 1x SVT410HE, 1x SVT115HE. All good and reas...

Re: Show us your Bass!

Hi all, Well I'm done. I've got the last addition to my bass whanau. No more basses, no more gas. I am there. Basically I only plan on buying bass related running costs - repairs, maintenance, strings, leads. Small stuff. So introducing my 2011 Musicman Stingray Classic 5 string with gilded white fi...
