Pickup poll

Postby T-Dub » Sun Jul 18, 2010 4:04 am

Which pickups do you like better?

This is going straight into a Tc Electronic Konnekt and then into Logic. No Eq, effects, anything, just the straight signal. Bone-dry.

I play 3 segments, 1st is fingerstyle, tone up. 2nd is Picked, tone up. 3rd is fingerstyle tone down. I have reasonably new roundwound strings on.
Bass is an 03' Fender Precision, all stock barring pups.

Now which do you like the most? Hazard a guess as to what you think each one is!

soundclip #2 sounds much much fuller with more fundamental, but i don't think it would cut through in a band setting as well as soundclip #1.

the tone-down fingerstyle of #2 is far smoother than #1 for those kinda applications.
i like rickenbackers. very much.

Sound clip one sounded richer to me, especially with the pic.

The higher output of the second one will make it seem fatter but it does have a warmer low end than the first one, which may or may not be good in the mix.

Are you picking them based only on the DI'd tone?

The first segments sound similar, I wouldn't mind either pickup for that part.

The second and third... First pickup probably wins hands down, but I usually don't play with the tone wound down or with picking.

You know, the second part of the second sample... sounds a bit electronic...
