Heh heh... all good points. I used to work with Junior Fitz, a lovely bloke and one of the groovingest cats on the planet. Haven't seen him for years.
Gear snobbery is something I guess we're all guilty of. I've owned Mesa, Ampeg, Trace, GK, SWR, Markbass and a great many more, and had an Eden when I discovered that a lowly Behringer head gave me the best double bass sound I'd ever had. Sold the Eden to buy a Behringer. Everyone said öh, they're unreliable". Rang my bro, a fulltime bassist in Aussie. He'd used one for years of touring and it never once went down.
Now my back has given out, I've downsized to a GenzBenz Shuttle setup. It doesn't have that 50s double bass thump that the Behringer had though.
The information highway we now drive down is a double edged sword. It reinforces the grass is greener mentality by giving us options we never used to dream of. I dig my GB but the reality is I would have been just as happy, and financially a lot better off, sticking with the Behringer.
Oh well........

Let's not forget the power of peer pressure.

Many band mates will sneer at anything they believe to be unworthy. As Marty says - that's normally anything outside of the small familiar common group. Many performers are sensitive to this and having your mates extracting the urine wears thin, so we bow to the pressure and bask in their praise when we play our (name brand here) rather than our (in our opinion) far better (less well known boutique brand here).

Absolutely true! My drummer was originally bagging genz and only swearing by ampeg. So I told him to rid of his DW kit and get a tama. He prefers DW and I prefer the genz to ampeg of similar price, so each to their own! BTW who would listen to a drummer anyway! I'm after my sound thanks, not yours! :D

Weird. It was dead for most of the day yesterday, but came back late last evening.

Just checked it again and it seems to be working fine for me...
